Salcombe Crabfest announce headline sponsors and 2023 nominated charities

Returning on Sunday 30th April 2023, Salcombe Crabfest is now in its sixth year, and will be once more shining a light on the fantastic local fishing industry in the region.

We are delighted to announce this year, the popular one-day food festival is being sponsored by three local businesses, holiday letting agency Coast & Country Cottages, Salcombe-based distillery Devon Rum Co, and estate agent Marchand Petit.

In addition to showcasing and celebrating the fabulous brown crab, caught off South Devon’s coastline, the event also aims to raise money for local charities. Raising over £50,000 since the festival first began, this year Crabfest will be supporting three key organisations – Chill South Devon, Devon Mind and Devon Air Ambulance.

Run by a team of dedicated volunteers from The Rotary Club of Salcombe, this annual event is free to attend and takes place throughout Salcombe, with any money fundraised from collection buckets and donation points at the festival given to the nominated charities.

Nick Brodie, event organiser, said “We are so excited for Salcombe Crabfest 2023. It is such a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Salcombe’s thriving industries, and to raise much needed funds for good causes. This year, we are delighted to be supporting two mental health charities, who do incredible work to help people locally in need of support. Devon Air Ambulance is also an essential and hugely worthwhile cause – we are proud to be donating some of the money raised this year to them too.”

He finishes “The event is shaping up to be a superb day out, and we are really looking forward to welcoming you all. Please dig deep and show your support to our charities – it really will make a difference. Also, a massive thanks must go to our sponsors who are helping to ensure this event is as fantastic as ever!”

To find out a little more about our 2023 sponsors, we asked them for a few words:

Coast & Country Cottages

Emily Mercer, Marketing Manager at holiday letting agency Coast & Country Cottages says “We are so proud to sponsor Salcombe Crabfest again this year. It is such an important event, kicking off Salcombe’s holiday season. Our local team, based in our office on Island Street, love the event and everything it stands for – namely supporting the local community and the amazing food, drink and artisans crafts we have here in an abundance. We can’t wait for the 2023 festival – be sure to visit us on our stand, for free children’s activities!”

Devon Rum Co.

Brad Wicks, Head of Marketing at Devon Rum Co. adds “We’re very excited to be supporting Salcombe Crabfest this year! As one of Salcombe’s most celebrated events, Crabfest is a great opportunity for visitors to enjoy the incredible seafood that our town is famous for, while also being introduced to a whole host of outstanding artisan brands and local entertainment. We can’t wait to welcome people into our Blending House on Island Street to celebrate the occasion with live music, rum cocktails, and plenty of laughs!”

Marchand Petit

Charlie Heath, Salcombe Manager, Marchand Petit says “Once again we are delighted to be supporting what has fast become a Salcombe spring tradition and always a great start to the season. As one of the main sponsors of Salcombe Crabfest it has been our privilege and pleasure to see the event grow over the past few years, from a few stalls down Island Street to taking over the boat park and being packed wall-to-wall with visitors from afar and locals from all over the South Hams. We will be there bright and breezy as usual to welcome all the Crabfest guests with a glass of fizz, and will no doubt be enjoying a few glasses ourselves, along with sampling all the delicious food that is on offer from the various stalls and restaurants. We look forward to seeing you at Salcombe Crabfest 2023!”
