f you’ve ever wanted to learn how to pick crab like a pro then get yourselves down to Salcombe Crab Festival this Sunday 5th May. Head over to the Chefs’ Demo Tent at 4pm for a crab picking masterclass by Claire Mundy of The Salcombe Fishwife. Claire will discuss the best way to cook a crab and demonstrate how to go about extracting the delicious crab meat easily and efficiently. Two members of the audience will be called upon to come and have a go!

Immediately afterwards at 4.30pm, Salcombe Holiday Homes will host a crab picking contest sponsored by the crew of the Claire Louise – SE150 and compered by Radio Devon’s David Fitzgerald. Expect things to get messy as our guest chefs battle it out with hammer and pick to see who can extract the most crab meat, with the least shell, in the quickest time.

Think you’ve got what it takes to give them a run for their money? Up to three audience members will be invited to take part in the crab picking contest. Just turn up and make yourselves known on the day!

After the judging, our crab picking contestants will go head-to-head again, this time in a Crabfest Cook-Off where they’ll be challenged to rustle up some creative crab dishes using the picked crab meat and any other ingredients they can find in the Chefs’ Demo Tent. Think Ready, Steady, Cook with double the chaos and even more fun! Audience members will taste the finished dishes and decide who wins. Don’t miss it!
