The Triangle Centre in Kingsbridge has been presented with a cheque for an impressive £6,416 by The Rotary Club of Salcombe, following the success of the popular charity event Salcombe Crabfest earlier this year.

The cancer support centre, based at South Hams Hospital, was nominated as the 2019 principal charity to benefit from the festival. The donation will pay for a complementary therapist to provide treatments to cancer patients and their families at the Triangle Centre for an entire year!

Debbie Clift, Cancer Support Nurse Specialist at the centre said, “This is an amazing thing. Patients can really vouch for the benefits of complementary therapy, and having it available at the Triangle Centre for the coming year will make a huge difference to people’s lives, both to those living with cancer, and to those people supporting them. Therapies will include reflexology, Indian head massage and reiki – the latter being available to patients throughout their chemotherapy. We are so grateful to the Rotary Club of Salcombe, and to everyone involved with Salcombe Crabfest for making this happen.”

Salcombe Crabfest is a one-day event taking place annually in May, celebrating the exceptional fishing and tourism industries in the town. This year’s highlights included celebrity chef demonstrations from the likes of Saturday Kitchen’s Matt Tebbutt, as well as live music, children’s activities, traders and competitions. Whilst free to attend, the event aims to raise money for local charities – donations from Crabfest events to date now total over £40,000 cumulatively!

In addition to the Triangle Centre donation, the Rotary Club of Salcombe has also presented a cheque for £2,000 to Macmillan Cancer Care, the sum of which was raised at the firework display during the 2019 Salcombe Regatta Week.

John Sampson, organiser of Salcombe Crabfest said “It is with great honour that The Rotary Club of Salcombe present this money to these two exceptionally worthwhile organisations, both of which work tirelessly to help those living with cancer and their families within our community.”

He continues, “Salcombe Crabfest is not only a wonderful event for people to enjoy… it also raises a huge amount of money which goes directly to local charities. We are so grateful to everyone who helps make the Crabfest so successful – there’s a large team of volunteers, sponsors and local businesses that contribute in many ways. Without them this cheque presentation wouldn’t be possible, so thank you.”

Debbie finishes, “The Triangle Centre, which is here to help all local people affected by cancer, is open every Tuesday at South Hams Hospital from 10am-4pm, either for a ‘drop in’ or by phone 01548 852349.”

The date for the next Salcombe Crabfest is 3rd May 2020, with plans already well underway for an exciting, action-packed day not to be missed.
